Full Moon in Capricorn
Reaching fullness in the sign of Capricorn, the Moon urges us to focus on the physical manifestations of life. How do the structures, form and organization of our life support our being practical and productive? Capricorn, cardinal and earthy, wants to initiate a new objective. It’s ambitious and uses its focus to strive and accomplish. Its symbol is the mountain goat with a dolphin tail climbing from the depths of the sea to the top of the mountain one step at a time – deliberate, methodical and dependable. Capricorn seeks perfection on the material plane and recognition in the social spheres. Representing the Father principle as Cancer, its opposite, represents the Mother principle, Capricorn instinctively acts to embody integrity – keep their word, show up, do what needs to be done, finish – and conform to and maintain the cultural patterns for the good of the community. Capricorn is Authority, both outer and inner, where we stand up for the principles necessary for the good of all. They love to accumulate resources usually through their own effort and hard work and conservative nature and often success is delayed until later in life. The Cancer/Capricorn continuum as personified by the Full Moon with Sun in Cancer and Full Moon in Capricorn are both concerned with security. Cancer seeks inner, emotional security and Capricorn wants tangible, material outer security. Every Full Moon is a chance to realize the resolution/paradox of duality.
What planet rules Capricorn? Saturn, of course. The Teacher – giver of lessons on the physical plane for the benefit of learning at the soul level. Saturn has an element of limitation, yet as we learn our lessons through somewhat painful experiences, we gain wisdom and freedom as we take more responsibility for our actions. Saturn is tied to the major life cycles of that come every seven years: At seven (first square to our natal Saturn) we are socialized and enter expanded community life at school, at 14 (transiting Saturn opposite natal Saturn) we enter adolescence, differentiate from our parents and explore individuality, at 21 (Saturn second, closing square to natal Saturn) we are considered adults and begin taking responsibility for ourselves, and at about 28, Saturn reaches again its place at birth and we experience our ‘Saturn Return’ and astrological adulthood where we have seen one complete cycle of our ‘karma’ or lessons and ‘we reap what we have sown’. We begin our second cycle of Saturn with major years being 35, 42, 49 and then the second Saturn return at about 58-59 years of age. These important years often coincide with major life lessons or periods where we are very focused on work of some kind, disciplined, and therefore reap the rewards of working with Saturn. Resistance to Saturn is futile.
The negative pole for Capricorn/Saturn might be seen as being overly cautious, materialistic, controlling, cold, unimaginative, self-doubting, pessimistic. Saturn issues often look like family obligations, restriction by our own feelings of inadequacy, meaningless duties, disappointment or anything else the universe can think up to pointedly show us just what we need to learn in the moment.
Saturn rules the bones, as our basic form and structure, teeth and joints, and knees where we bend in humbleness to true authority. Bones and teeth are where we store our oldest patterns, so get out your bones and sticks and do some clicking and tapping to break up any old calcified patterns in yourself.
Saturn is currently in Libra in this Full Moon chart and will be until October 2012. So our lessons as a collective are leaning towards issues of how to relate and cooperate creating balance and justice in all our relationships and business negotiations.
Venus in Cancer, with her feminine values and relationship to finance and aesthetics, is squaring Saturn in this chart. Venus squared Uranus on the 7th and opposed Pluto on the 8th so she is crucial to consider during this period. Lessons continue to include the balance of the masculine and feminine at all levels. Nothing really moves forward until we bring our lives into alignment to this polarity.
Pluto in Capricorn echoes the sign of the Full Moon. Pluto is here to transform our structures and dissolve all forms that no longer serve and the struggle is played out daily with government, business, and holders of authority. I can’t say it appears that our governmental and most ingrained structures are in a process of letting go, but we definitely are witnessing the revealing of our shadow side and the pressure is on. Neptune, Saturn, Uranus, Chiron and Jupiter have all preceded Pluto through Capricorn in the last 25 years, so the lack of integrity, self–seeking ambition, and neglect of the well being for the whole is not news. We’ve been looking at the young soul shenanigans for decades and now Pluto will demand that we transform this shadow energy, and integrity this time will include a balanced feminine, economic congruity at all levels, inclusion of the needs of the whole planet and social integration of all peoples. Pluto is in Capricorn until 2024 and the multiple squares upcoming in 2012 with Uranus are just the trigger we need to get things moving in a new and unexpected direction.
Notable in this chart are five quintiles. Quintiles are minor (more subtle) aspects of 72º that divide the natural 360º zodiac wheel into five sections. Quintiles denote expression of creativity and talents, and five is a great many for a single chart. Should I list them? Saturn to North Node, Chiron to North Node, Uranus to Moon, Uranus to Mars, Venus to Juno…. suffice it to say there is a great deal of opportunity for creative solution here. And with North Node, our point of spiritual growth and Uranus, planet of sudden and unexpected outcomes and genius sporting two quintiles each, there just might be wonderful energy for learning to create instantaneously with our thoughts in tandem with the quantum field. A Capricorn Full Moon is very practical; one could get much accomplished on the physical plane with a little discipline and focus.
The Moon moves into Capricorn early Wednesday morning readying itself for Full Moon in the later degrees. Late in the afternoon we may notice a time of intensity when Moon squares Uranus and two hours later passes directly over Pluto essentially reactivating the Grand Cross of the last eclipse. Worth noting what comes up.
Enjoy the watery, supportive feminine energy of Cancer Sun for another week or so and then a shift to more fiery extroverted, masculine Leo on Friday July 22 at 10:12 PM MDT.
We all managed the pressure cooker period of the three eclipses of the last 6 weeks. Amazing shifts happened in some lives, challenging circumstances arose in others. Those with planets in 5-12º of the cardinal signs, Aries, Libra, Cancer, Capricorn may be feeling the intensity of the Uranus, Saturn, Pluto T-Square focused on their lives ~ just one more step-up in the energy we are being called on to hold and transmute in these amazing times.
Capricorn Full Moon says, ‘Be patient, get organized, take responsibility for what comes up…’.
