Shipibo Gourd Rattles

Shipibo Rattle 

From the Jungles of Peru off the Amazon River

These hand-carved gourd rattles, also known as maracas, are beautifully crafted by the Shipibo tribe on the Amazon river in the jungles of Peru. The gourd is actually a large tree seed and the stick handle is made from the wood of the contaduro palm tree, decorated with parrot feathers.
