The ancient style drum is a beautiful instrument of the heart. It is used often for personal pleasure, shamanic healing work, drum circle gatherings, and shamanic journey work. In shamanic healing work the drum is known to bring in a vibration to clear blocks in the energy bodies as well as to open the spiritual heart center. Drumming can move one out of the linear, left brain, into the frequency of peace obtained in meditation, which is also associated with the right brain.

For thousands of years we have demonized and disconnected from our Divine Mother, our Divine Feminine power that resides within each of us, whether we are male and female. The North is a place of wisdom, rest, restoration and power. We have come full circle in our healing journey and now is the time to go within, to find our cave and reflect on what has been and dream what might be. The ancient style drum is a beautiful instrument of the heart. It is used often for personal pleasure, shamanic healing work, drum circle gatherings, and shamanic journey work. The melodic beat can help you enter into trance-like, meditative states to assist you in accessing wisdom, guidance, and the place of calm of the heart center.
In shamanic healing work the drum is known to bring in a vibration to clear blocks in the energy bodies as well as to open the spiritual heart center. A practitioner may assist another in journeying to meet their spirit guides and totem animals for wisdom and healing, or may journey for the them. Drumming can move one out of the linear, left brain, into the frequency of peace obtained in meditation, which is also associated with the right brain.
Making your own drum in a sacred, shamanic environment helps you to get in touch with the spirit of your drum, as well as the spirit animals associated with your drum hide of choice. There is ceremonial work to connect you to the essence of your drum as a heart instrument. This ceremonial playshop infuses prayers, blessings and gratitude energies into your drum.

Join in sacred circle in the Shamanic Healing Circle for cleaning and clearing your mind, body and spirit. Fill up with positive energy and raise your vibration to assist you in navigating these times of conflict, revolution and transformation.
This is a gathering for sacred ceremony of blessing and healing within the Shamanic Healing Circle. As you enter into this evening, you will be cleared with sacred tobacco and agua de florida water. We will then open a medicine wheel circle in ceremonial style, honoring our allies and the directions, calling in support and protection, creating a safe and sacred space for the evening. Short shamanic clearings/healings and blessings will be offered individually within the group setting.
If weather permits we may also have a fire ceremony as part of the healing circle.
The collective group setting and individual clearings assist in clearing patterns of limitation, and opening to the wholeness of each individual, supporting self empowerment and wellness on mental, emotional, spiritual and physical levels. This also supports one to better navigate their lives in balance and personal power.
Shamanism and shamanic energy healing is known to be as old as 50,000 years according to modern day archeology. Katherine Skaggs has trained internationally with Amazonian Shipibo Indian shamans from the jungles of Peru, the Q'ero from the Andes of Peru and the Huichols from Mexico, in addition to multi-cultural shamanic teachers within the U.S. The practices offered within this ceremonial circle are handed down from these traditions and offered with the intention of personal and community healing and blessing.

Learn to make your own 16" deer rawhide drum on a maple hoop frame, and drum beater, or an 18" elk rawhide drum in sacred ceremony and ritual the way our ancestors did. Call in the spirit of your drum, and infuse your drum making with love and intention.
This playshop includes all materials to make your drum, within the practice of sacred shamanic ceremony. We will open a medicine wheel and call in the directions and all our allies, we will smudge and smoke ourselves and our drum materials while setting intention and sending prayers to Spirit.

Learn to “see” beyond what your brain and eyes experience… an intuitive approach connecting your heart spaces with the stillness of sitting in observation to create your own self soul portrait. In this 4 day Women's Only Retreat, Katherine will teach you an intuitive painting process coupled with self portrait painting and drum journey to achieve your own personal self soul portrait. Whether you are a seasoned artist or beginner, Katherine will lay out how to work with the materials, how to work with color, symbolism, and intention to connect to your essence, as well as how to paint your own portrait of the soul. You will work with opening a safe and sacred space for diving deep into your creativity and imagination, to open the doorway to visioning, and how to bring that to a canvas.

2 to 6pm – Opening Circle and Introduction of Intuitive Painting and Painting the Soul. The intersection of intuition, art, vision and being the Artist, Healer, Wise One. Slide show of soul portraits, sacred symbols and visionary art that communicate and activate the soul essence remembering through their beauty and intention.
6 to 7:30pm - Dinner break (on your own or bring in)

Set up studio space.
Demonstration of intention setting, and visioning your soul portrait art. Drum Journey to connect to your essence, guides and helpers. Reflection, journaling and sketching intentions, messages and symbols.
9 to 1pm
Demonstration of base priming of canvas and intuitive color and abstraction to set the foundational energy of your painting. Prep canvas with base paint energy and abstraction. Conversation with the soul painting process. 11x14" practice painting engaging the soul essence.

Studio time - Symbolism and meaning. What are your symbols? What is your story?
Practice painting continued. Then sketch self from life, onto charcoal and toned paper transfer sketch to canvas and begin soul painting.

Open Studio time - Transferring drawings to 16x20" canvas, add symbols and work on composition.

If you don’t have your own acrylic paints, you can use Katherine’s paints for an additional $25 for the retreat, payable day of class. Additional brushes are also available if need be.

Katherine Skaggs has been an artist her whole life. In her late teens and early 20s she became interested in metaphysics and spirituality. As life progressed she became interested in the intersection of her art and her spiritual path. This journey has been an amazing path of healing, revelation and connection to the Divine.
Katherine now works as a full time visionary artist, intuitive, writer, spiritual teacher and healer. She has discovered the healing power of art both through creating it and through engaging it. In ancient times the shamans, priests and priestesses in the community would make art as gateways and portals to the Divine. They would make art as healing tools for individuals and for their community. They were the visionaries and the healers, they were the messengers of the Gods and Goddesses.
Art is no different today when it is created with intention. Within each one of us is an innate ability to use creativity as a healing experience. Quantum physics is now validating what has been taught about art and created through art in Spiritual communities for 1,000s of years. There's art therapy as well as intuitive creativity as healing and awakening modalities widely accepted and making the scene in our modern world.
Within this talk Katherine will share her experiences of revelation in healing through creating art, as well as her knowledge and wisdom of others healing through viewing sacred art. She'll discuss the spiritual, metaphysical and quantum physics components. She'll also give you guidance in how to bring this healing modality into your life, through beautiful imagery, as well as through the Intuitive Creative Process. Katherine will also discuss and show you samples of sacred symbology used in art to restore, renew and heal, as well as to help awaken your consciousness.
Katherine will also share the Healing Power of Soul Portraits, a process brought to Katherine through her guides, to assist in healing and awakening the awareness of essence, or soul, rather than just identification with the human self.
